History
The Heineman Foundation was started in 1948. The founders, Dannie and Hettie Heineman, were deeply interested in furthering research both in the "hard sciences" and in medicine. The founders also loved music, and funded the Marlboro Music School and Festival when it was in its very beginning stages. The original board was small, consisting of four family members and three non-family members. Today, the Heineman Foundation has a board of over twenty Directors, almost all of whom are family members.
The Heineman Foundation is based in New York City, and is a 501(c)3 organization.
